CLEAN UP AND MEDITATE

Sun, April 21, 3pm to 5pm

Please join us for a couple of hours meditating, cleaning and other useful things and help keep our center a beautiful space for practice. We will start with a short meditation at 3pm followed by some light and mindful work. If you are interested in helping out in any way, but can't make this time, please contact Padmatara.

FULL MOON PUJAS (near or at the time of the full moon).

During the time of the Buddha the community of monks and nuns would gather together on the night of the full moon to meditate in the warm glow of the moon’s light. The night of the full moon is a natural, auspicious opportunity to come together as a community and offer devotion to that which is mysterious to us, beyond our sight but still deeply embedded in our hearts. In the Buddhist tradition devotion can take many forms, one of which is the communal practice of puja (ritual). Each evening will include time for questions, a short meditation and reflection, and a traditional seven-fold puja. $5 suggested donation*.

Day Retreats

TOUCHING THE EARTH

Sat, April 20, 10am to 4pm, led by Paramananda

A day retreat focusing on the essence of practice and being at ease in the world. It is all too easy to become caught up with the particular techniques of practice. On this day retreat we will explore the essentials of all forms of sitting and walking meditations, being grounded and connected with ourselves, and finding ways to feel supported by the world in which we live.

Paramananda has been teaching meditation and leading retreats for 30 years or more. He was the chair of the SFBC until 2001 and wrote the book "Change Your Mind" that we use for our Meditation Courses.

Cost: sliding scale $30 to $70. Pre-registration appreciated and guarantees a place (it's possible this retreat will fill up). Please bring your lunch (other lunch options in the neighborhood as well).

CONTINUITY AND CHANGE: A BUDDHIST PERSPECTIVE ON AGING

Sat, Apr 27, 10am to 4pm, led by Karunadevi and Danamaya

A day for women over 55. Drawing on the teachings of impermanence, compassion, joy, and interconnectedness, we will explore our experiences of aging through meditation, reflection, journal writing, and discussion. What does it mean to age? How can we traverse this process of change with mindfulness, kindness, and a sense of adventure?

Cost: sliding scale $35 to $75. Lunch will be provided. Pre-registration appreciated so that we have numbers for lunch.

EXPLORING BUDDHIST MEDITATION

Sat, May 18, 10am to 4pm, led by Dayamudra and Hridayashri

A body based approach to the Triratna Buddhist system of meditation. An opportunity to find stillness in our lives. Sitting, Reflecting, Restoring.

Open to all, and especially suitable for beginners.

Dayamudra and Hridayashri have both been practicing meditation for many years. Dayamudra is also an experienced yoga and movement teacher. Hridayashri is a certified massage therapist. Both are deeply interested in the body and wellness.

Cost: sliding scale $30 to $70. Pre-registration appreciated and guarantees a place. Please bring your lunch (other lunch options in the neighborhood as well).

THE RADICAL EMBRACE

Sat, Jun 15, 10am to 4pm, led by Padmadharini

"No matter what state dawns at this moment, can there be just that? Not a movement away, an escape into something that will provide what this state does not provide... Just completely, unconditionally listening to what's there now." Toni Packer

Join Padmadharini on this day where we'll explore how to embrace and listen to our actual experience as it arises in each moment. In doing this, we discover how to touch the pure essence of what's unfolding, and the freedom that can be known through that. We'll engage in a more insightful way of working within experience through meditation, enquiry, silence, and the simple ordinariness of our moment-to-moment experience.

You'll leave the retreat with greater confidence in how to move towards what you are experiencing, and will begin to experience qualities of awareness that are always with you, and that transcend habitual self-centredness.

Padmadharini has many years experience with meditation, and brings a dynamic and interactive quality to her teaching.

Cost: sliding scale $30 to $70. Pre-registration appreciated and guarantees a place. Please bring your lunch (other lunch options in the neighborhood as well).

THE CREATIVE USE OF IMAGERY IN MEDITATION: STEPS TOWARDS RE-IMAGINING THE BUDDHA

Sat, JuL 17, 10am to 4pm, led by Vajradaka

Buddhist iconography is full of hand gestures, they directly show the specific qualities of mind which are central to the Buddhas experience and teachings.

In this workshop style event we will explore the imagery of hand gestures (Mudra) and how they can help show you the way of transformation from how you are now into the enlightened qualities embodied and expressed by the Buddha and Bodhisattvas.

Padmadharini has many years experience with meditation, and brings a dynamic and interactive quality to her teaching.

Cost: sliding scale $30 to $70. Pre-registration appreciated and guarantees a place. Please bring your lunch (other lunch options in the neighborhood as well).
