Suvarnaprabha

A pilgimage to Wisdom, MontanaHere are some talks given by Suvarnaprabha (MP3 format.)

Originally from an undisclosed suburb north of the Mexican border, Suvarnaprabha has been living in the Bay Area since 1986. Soon thereafter during a solitary trip across Asia, she became drawn toward Buddhism and learned to meditate at an FWBO (Friends of the Western Buddhist Order) class in Kathmandu. Suvarnaprabha is the Buddhist (Sanskrit) name she received at ordination which means "Golden Radiance". Suvanna for short!

Director of this Center, Suvarnaprabha leads various activities, including Thursday drop-in meditation classes, Sangha night, and other classes at the Center. She also meditates with violent offenders in SF County Jail and is a Buddhist Chaplain at Calif. State Prison, Solano. Festival Director of the Buddha's Delight Festival, which included lectures on Buddhism and art, a group exhibition, and 3 nights of Buddhist film and performance art, she regularly organizes arts events at the SFBC.

Suvarnaprabha has a regular column, Ask Auntie Suvanna, that appears in Wildmind.org's blog and monthly newsletter. Her writing has appeared in What Book?! Buddha Poems from Beat to Hiphop (Parallax Press, 1998) and Challenging Times: Stories of Buddhist practice when things get tough (Windhorse Publications, 2007).
