Dhammarati

Karunadevi

Originally from Glasgow in Scotland, Dhammarati joined the Western Buddhist Order in 1976. In the '80s he trained as a graphic designer at Central School of Art in London, with tutors like Anthony Froshaug, a link to the European modernist tradition of the Bauhaus. Visiting San Francisco for the first time in 1984 to work briefly at Public Media Center, he returned to the UK to become chairman of London Buddhist Centre, and was involved in developing meditation and Dharma teaching there.

He moved to Birmingham in 2000 to and become part of the Preceptors College Council, a meeting of experienced members of the Order. He is on the board of the Network of Buddhist Organisations in the UK, the European Buddhist Union, and the organising group of the Meeting of Buddhist Teachers in Europe. In 2000 he re-established a connection with San Francisco and the San Francisco Buddhist Center, becoming its president, and is delighted to visit each year to teach and help develop the connection between the SFBC and the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order (FWBO) worldwide.
