 Stress Reduction with Mindfulness

Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgementally…it provides a simple but powerful route for getting ourselves unstuck, back in touch with our own wisdom and vitality.” -Jon Kabat-Zinn

Stress and Mindfulness

In a recent study, 25% of Americans reported that they have felt like screaming or shouting because of job stress. In another study, 40% described their job as “extremely stressful.” While a certain amount of stress is natural, ongoing, chronic stress may have various adverse effects such as increased blood pressure and heart rate, irritability, depression, insomnia, addictive behavior, forgetfulness, restlessness, and anxiety. Stress also lowers our resistance, making us more vulnerable to illness and disease. It is a major health concern in the US and worldwide. The cognitive component, mindfulness, has been shown to be an powerful tool in managing our stress responses and health in general.

Workplace and SFBC Workshops

Stress reduction workshops are regularly offered at our Center and off-site at various workplaces in the Bay Area. These workshops introduce mindfulness techniques, tools and strategies you can use every day to help restore all aspects of ourselves, including body, mind, and heart.

Some workshops may include some simple Hatha yoga poses as an option. No previous experience with meditation or yoga is necessary. To find out about the next workshop or inquire about scheduling a lunchtime course at your workplace, please contact the Center.
