The retreat centers listed below are all in the Santa Cruz Mountains - a beautiful area of land less than 2 hours' drive from San Francisco. Day retreat dates will be announced closer to the time of their being offered through Center bulletins and on the web. Click here to be added to the Center email bulletin. NOTE: paying online DOES NOT register you for a retreat -- we still need your contact information.

February 18-26: Women's Western U.S. and Mitra Retreat (open to women Order members and mitras) at Vajrapani.

March 11-13, Open Retreat (Friday 7:30pm to Sunday 3pm)
Meditating with Mountain Hermits

A meditation retreat inspired by the poetry and expansive view of mountain hermit meditators: Cold Mountain, Shabkar, Ryokan, Milarepa and Buddhist nuns of China. Viveka and Shantinayaka are meditation teachers who for many years have done long solitary retreats in the wilds and most recently went on pilgrimage together in mountains of China and Eastern Tibet. Both teachers draw inspiration and guidance from the poems and songs of mountain meditators. At Camp Double Bear.

May 13-16: Loving-Kindness: A Buddhist Meditation Retreat (with yoga) for Women (Friday 8:00pm to Monday 3pm with the option to only stay through Sunday afternoon) at Camp Double Bear. Led by Suvarnaprabha and yoga teachers.

June 10-17 Summer Meditation Immersion Retreat (Friday 7:30pm to Friday 2pm, 7 nights)
Four Foundations of Mindfulness explored through the Anapanasati sutta.
This sutta (discourse) contains 16 accessible instructions taught by the Buddha that work through the four foundations of mindfulness (body, feelings, mind and the nature of reality) leading all the way to Enlightenment. ed by Viveka, Shantinayaka, and others, at Jikoji.

Sept 2-5: Order and Mitra Retreat (open to Order members and mitras) at Jikoji. (Friday 7:30pm to Monday, 3pm)
Led by visiting Order member Kulaprabha.
Cost: $255-$205 (Paying the higher rate in advance helps others come on retreat at a lower rate.)

Oct 7-9: Open retreat (Friday 7:30pm to Sunday 3pm)

Dec 23 - 30: 7-Day Winter Meditation Retreat (Friday 7:30pm to Friday 2pm, 7 nights) at Camp Double Bear.
Led by Kamalashila, a senior Order member who was ordained more than 30 years ago. He is also the author of the book "Meditation: the buddhist way of tranquility and insight".
Sliding scale: $415-$385 (Paying the higher rate helps others come on retreat at a lower rate.)

You can learn the Mindfulness of Breathing and Metta Bhavana (Cultivation of Loving-Kindness) meditations at our drop-in class and/or six-week meditation courses. All other events open to all.
