Korea's Age of Enlightenment (918-1392), spotlighting art from this
important medieval period known world-wide for its Buddhist paintings
and celadon ceramics. Other art from the period includes illustrated
sutras, manuscripts, printing blocks, sculpture, ceramics, and lacquer
and metal works.
The speaker is Dr. David
Buchanan, a docent for the Asian Art Museum since 1984. Dr. Buchanan
attended Georgetown University, and later received his medical degree
from the University of Buffalo. He has had an abiding interest in Asian
arts and cultures since he first traveled to Korea over 50 years ago.
As an active member of the museum's Community Speakers Program, he speaks
regularly on a wide variety of topics related to the arts of Asia.
